North Fraser Selects will become West Coast Selects
NFS Members,
Happy New Year! The beginning of the 2011/12 season has seen many changes in the soccer world with BCPL, mergers galore and
unprecedented change in youth soccer structure. The Alouette District and the Select/Gold program has continued to move forward with a cohesive, long term district strategy which we feel will
establish the district as a leading development model and provide sustainable growth oriented programs for years to come. Congratulations are also in order for the U13 Gold United who finished in
first place in 5D league play and the U16 Selects who finished tied for second in MSL play.
Well done coaches and players!
On the local merger front Golden Ears and Pitt Meadows have been working behind the scenes to ready the new club, the West Coast AGFC to begin operation in April. The new club has engaged local sponsorship to enhance programs and finance additional professional technical and administrative staff which will have a positive impact on the district select program. The new club will become one of the largest soccer clubs in the province and in addition to the almost 3500 youth players, the new club also includes almost 700 adult players on 34 adult teams. In conjunction with Mission and the District Select program the WCAGFC offers programs in virtually every age group and calibre from U4 to over 55's. In short the clubs and district are positioned better than ever.
We have some information with regard to the Alouette District Select and Gold program for next season.
1. Tony Leyland the programs head coach will be moving into the Strength and Conditioning Head Coach role for the Select Program and
the WCAGFC. We thank Tony, who has done a fabulous job as Head Coach for the NFS program and are eager for him to start in his new role. Tony's fitness sessions have been well attended and we
expect to expand this component of the training going forward. We will be naming a new program head coach shortly so keep your eyes open for an upcoming announcement.
2. For the first time we will be welcoming Girls officially to the program for the 2012/13 season. Girls teams have traditionally been run individually within the clubs but will now mirror the success of the boys program and be run as a district program.
3. NFS has a new name for next season. The North Fraser Selects program is coming into the new WCAGFC fold for next year. The West
Coast Selects will continue to be district run with Mission but the day to day operation will be handled by WCAGFC. This change means that the additional resources that are being put in place for
the WCAGFC will also extend to the select program for next season, including the clubs administration, coaching and academies. Gold teams will be under the WCAGFC for next season and not part of
the select program per se but will continue the close connection with the Selects and with the name change we will be able to facilitate player movement from all levels to Select teams.
Further
announcements to follow.
Best regards,
Chris Begg
